The Importance of Post-Prison Employment for Reducing Recidivisim over the Life Course

Wed, Nov 15, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Marriott, Room 403, 4th Floor

Abstract

The percentage of prisoners who are age 50 or older in the admissions, stock, and release populations in Florida has substantially increased in the last three decades. At the same time, literature on the importance of employment for reducing recidivism has implicated an offender’s age as an important moderating variable. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between post-prison employment and recidivism across age groups among a cohort of released prisoners in Florida from 2004 to 2010.
