Spatial Distribution of Robbery against Businesses in Houston City

Wed, Nov 15, 2:00 to 3:20pm, Marriott, Room 405, 4th Floor

Abstract

Using the crime victim data between 2011 and 2012 in Houston, Texas, this study analyzes the spatial pattern of robberies targeting business premises. Results show that the occurrence of business robberies is not equally distributed across the Houston city. A field observation following the identification of hotspots is conducted to pinpoint the potential factors behind the spatial pattern. The impact of these factors on the distribution of business robbery is further examined using Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) model.
