Introduction and Some Information about Criminology School in Bialystok (Poland)

Abstract

This year 2017 is specially important for University of Bialystok (Poland) because the University is celebrating 20th anniversary. Therefore speaker would like to present information about Criminology School in Bialystok, which over the years changed the face of criminology in Poland. During the speech speaker will introduce to unique edition of Current problems of the penal law and criminology, Aktuelle Probleme des Strafrechts und der Kriminologie” which is a unique book (almost 25 years of experience) in its field due to the fact that included articles are divided into two categories according to the nature of the disciplines mentioned in the title of the volume, namely penal law and criminology/criminal justice. In this year was released already seventh edition which will be presented on ASC 2017 in Philadelphia. This edition was peer-reviewed by leading experts in the field of criminology (Professor H. Kury and Professor D. Weisburd) and edited by speaker (Professor E. Pływaczewski) and Professor Guzik – Makaruk. The authors were many distinguished scientists, mostly representing criminal law and criminology, with internationally recognized status. At the same time, however, the principle was observed that invitations would be extended to outstanding Polish and foreign representatives of the younger generations of scientists in the aforementioned fields. In the present volume, this formula is broadened even further, as demonstrated by the fact that, in addition to scientists (around 70 authors) from all continents.
Subsequently will be discussed framework of research network between Royal University of Cambridge, University of Bialystok and Medical University of Silesia. Speaker would also summarized recent key events that took place in Criminology School in Bialystok, namely: conferences and seminars attended by world, esteemed criminologists, criminological workshops. At the end speaker would like to share information about achievments of young criminologist. One of them is published postconferencial monography (a result of first eddition of the International Forum of Young Criminologist) - "Modern crime and social pathologies from the perspective of interdisciplinary research in criminology".
