This presentation is about comparison of juvenile delinquency and its predictors in Switzerland (Western European culture), South Korea (Asian culture), and Ukraine (Slavic, post-Soviet culture). Results of our preliminary analysis of almost 8’000 respondents from these countries indicate that main criminological theories do not work in the same way in countries of Western civilization, in post-Soviet, and Asian countries. They also vary among different groups of respondents with and without immigration background. Different forms of spending leisure time, having delinquent friends, and substance use seem to be the most powerful explanatory variables across cultures. Results of the current project are expected to provide theoretical implications for future cross - national criminology research, particularly on issues related to theoretical aspects across different cultural settings.
