These case studies will analyze trends in pretrial detention in Liberia and Ghana. Both countries are uniquely situated to enact reforms aimed at reducing pretrial detention: Liberia, as a post-conflict state, and Ghana, as a relatively stable state. These case studies provide contextual background on socio-economic conditions and criminal justice practices, with an eye to adapting global best practice and suggesting appropriate recommendations for reform.
