Reentry in a Rural Setting: Implementing Evidence-Based Practices

Abstract

Interest in the implementation of evidence-based rehabilitative practices in corrections has become increasingly important. Despite great interest, challenges remain in regards to how jurisdictions with limited resources might be able to enhance existing programs. This paper presents the first-year experiences of a rural jurisdiction and their attempts to become engaged in evidence-based practices after receiving federal funding to develop a day reporting center in conjunction within their existing probation department. This includes the implementation of evidence-based programming, the establishment of a researcher-practitioner partnership, and the development of an appropriate quasi-experimental design strategy.
