Recent Progress of Crime Research in China

Abstract

This paper introduces latest research on street robberies, burglaries and fraud in ZG City of China. GIS based analysis and spatial statistical methods are used to reveal the spatial and temporal crime patterns, and to explore the associations of crime with environmental and socio-economic factors. Spatial and temporal autocorrelations are explicit considered in the models. Big data such as taxi ridership and mobile phone users are used to estimate population at risk. Comparisons are made to show similarity and differences among various types of crimes. The paper ends with a summary on major challenges, opportunities and future directions of crime research in China, citing a recently published special issue of Journal of Research on Crime and Delinquency on crime research in China, guested edited by Lin Liu and Jessica Li.
