Abstract

This study aims at examining the frequency of cyber bullying victimization and the associations between the cyber bullying victimization and suicidal thinking among Korean youth. The current study uses the “2011 Korean youth Human Right Status Data” from the KNYPI internet site as a secondary data. Hierarchial logistic regression analysis is conducted to identify the relationship between cyber bullying victimization and suicidal thinking. In the final logistic regression model, cyber bullying variable is categorized into four different types in order to measure more reliable and valid impact of the cyber bullying victimization. Result demonstrated that over 40% of respondents in this study were exposed to cyber bullying situation as victims. In addition, several vulnerability-related factors(gender, income, grade, age, and family structure) were emerged in the 1st logistic regression model and other risk factors(cyber bullying victimization types) were identified as contributing variables to suicidal thinking of youth in the 2nd model. The findings revealed that there are urgent need for further intervention and help on the cyber bullying victims and their vulnerable environment. Relevant policy implication will be discussed.
