The Influence of International and Regional Law and Proceudre on the Development of a Remedial Framework of Rights for Victims of Crime

Thu, Nov 16, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

International and regional law and procedure has had a substantial impact on the recognition of victim rights as human rights. The general lack of rights afforded to victims in adversarial system of justice has meant that justice systems have increasingly turned to international fora in an attempt to develop rights frameworks on the local jurisdictional level. This paper considers the integration of international and regional standards of justice for victims across several adversarial jurisdictions, including those in Australia, England and Wales, the US and Canada.
