Creativity Matters: Undergraduate Criminal Justice Students Practicing Visual Criminology

Abstract

Creativity matters! The pedagogical value of the visual project is to encourage students to think outside the box by challenging their imagination. As a result, students learn problem-solving and critical thinking skills. In recent years, undergraduate criminal justice and sociology students at the University of Wisconsin, Parkside creatively present their learning by practicing visual criminology. Students display their visual projects, which must include an interactive component and an inexpensive “give away” item so that the learning is shared. Such a learning by doing approach enhances retention of new materials. The purpose of this poster session is to present the variety and diversity of student visual projects during 2016-17 academic year.
