Given its popularity, the television Law and Order franchise has represented issues surrounding crime, violence, and justice. In fact, scholars argue that crime-drama shows (i.e. Law and Order) educate the public on all matters related to crime, violence, and justice; however, these shows tend to misrepresent these issues, which distorts these realities. The present study examines the demographics of sex offenders portrayed in the popular crime televisions show Law and Order: SVU. A content analysis of all 18 seasons of Law and Order: SVU will be conducted to determine whether the television series accurately depicts the typical sex offender.
