Sex Offenders, Registration, and Alternate Methods

Thu, Nov 16, 6:00 to 7:00pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to depict the flaws in sex registries, such as Megan's Law, and show how they create more detriment than benefit. Better ways to implement current polices will be offered utilizing the social bond theory of crime. Various other ways to reduce sex offenses in the future will be discussed. This paper demands a change to current sex offender legislation to minimize the damaging effects on low-risk offenders and concentrate resources on the truly dangerous ones.
