Academic Procrastination and Theoretical Explanations of Academic Dishonesty: A Survey of Students at a Historically Black College University

Thu, Nov 16, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

Previous studies have shown that theoretical explanations of deviance like differential association, strain and self-control are predictive of various forms of academic misconduct. However, these studies neglect the role academic procrastination plays in conditioning the aforementioned theoretical effects on academic misconduct. The current study examines the moderating effects of academic procrastination on theoretical explanations of academic dishonesty. The results will add to the existing literature by specifying the causal relationship between concepts traditionally used to explain crime and delinquency and academic dishonesty.
