Childhood Traumas and Cyber-bullying Victimization and Perceived Social Support in University Students: İstanbul Sample

Abstract

This research is aimed to reveal the relationship between childhood experiences among the people who are victims and perpetrators of cyber bullying and to investigate the correlation of the social support that these young people received from their families and friends and internet usage. The ultimate goal of this research is to contribute for taking cautions in order to keep away the youth from internet addiction and improve their interpersonal communication skills for their mental health.
To achieve mentioned aim interviews have been conducted with 50 female and 50 male university students at various ages in order to investigate their childhood trauma histories and cyber bullying victimizations and their perceptions about the social supports level have been compared by applying “Childhood Traumas Scale”, “Cyber Bullying Victimization Scale”, “Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale” and “Demographic Information Scale” scales. When gained data has been statistically analyzed it’s seen that the male university students are doing bullying more than the female university students. On the other hand it’s observed that sexual abuse as a subcategory of childhood traumas is significantly related with cyber bullying.
