Abstract

This chapter focuses on societal discourse as part of the book's larger conversation about how normative understanding of women’s roles, sexuality, labor, and masculinity have influenced policy and politics. We analyze the role of documentary as testimony in order to highlight how societal discourse, policy, and advocacy combine to both shape and challenge prostitution as a criminal justice concern in particular ways that influence how people who buy and sell sexual services are prosecuted, processed, and punished.
