Exploring the Role of Mobility, Time Usage, and Parental Influences on Juvenile Delinquency

Thu, Nov 16, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

Experiences of youth is often the topic of research and discussion. Research has indicated that residential and school mobility influence youth behavioral outcomes. In particular, residential and school mobility effect school performance and attainment (MacMillian & Wheaton, 1996; Pribesh & Downey, 1999), violence (Haynie & South, 2005), victimization (Burrow & Apel, 2008; Carson, Esbensen, & Taylor, 2013), and drug usage (Gasper, DeLuca, & Estacion, 2010; Hoffman & Johnson, 1996). Further, research has suggested that time usage is also a predictor of delinquency. This study, using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (1997), will extend the current state of knowledge by exploring the intersection of mobility, time usage, and delinquency.
