While Durkheim is often viewed as a conservative theorist, his work contains many crucial elements that could, and have, proven fruitful for developments within the critical perspective; one such perspective is late modernity. The connection between Durkheim’s work and late modernity is both obvious and acknowledged (Young, 1999/2007). This piece seeks to add to the discussion of these more obvious connections while striving to uncover other, potentially less obvious, influences from Durkheim’s work on the late modern perspective.
