The Effect of Card Reader Access Control on Theft on an Urban University Campus

Thu, Nov 16, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

The University of Pennsylvania has begun implementing card readers on campus buildings to restrict access to authorized users during certain times. Using university crime data beginning before the card reader technology program began, this study will assess if these buildings had lower crime after implementation and what (if any) building characteristics are necessary for effective implementation. Other security measures in the building, such as a security guard, will be analyzed. Results are forthcoming and will be discussed.
