Gender-Responsivity: Expanding Conceptual Insights and Developing Operational Specificity

Fri, Nov 17, 12:30 to 1:50pm, Marriott, Room 301, 3rd Floor

Abstract

Over the last few decades scholars and practitioners have called for the use of gender-responsive practice in assessment and intervention for female offenders. The concept has shown promise as an effective modality for treatment with women and girls. However, the concept still suffers some limitations related to operational specificity and implementation. This paper synthesizes the academic and policy literature with the primary goal of analyzing how gender-responsivity has been defined in practice and operationalized in research. Implications for future research and policy related to gender-responsive practice will be explored.
