The degree of the criminal offense will be based upon the punishment they have been given according to the Indian penal code. Theft gets a maximum of 3 years, a person who kidnaps gets a maximum of 7 years and a person who commits murder gets the life sentence. I will use a survey with close-ended questions to find what years of education they have completed. I will use a sample of 1500 criminal offenders from Tihar Jail, New Delhi, India. The time dimension of the research study is a period of six months starting from 01/01/2018 – 06/01/2018. The unit of analysis is individuals, and I have chosen to conduct a cross-sectional study. As my research does not involve follow-ups and the data can be collected all at once. The sample of criminal offenders will be obtained using stratified sampling in order to obtain a greater degree of representativeness than using just simple random sampling or systematic sampling. The population will be stratified according to their convictions, which are subcategorized as Theft, Murder, and Kidnapping.
