Abstract

Recent altercations between the NYPD and New Yorkers ending in loss of life have raised citizens’ concerns about police effectiveness. From 2012 to 2017, students from John jay College conducted over 15000 surveys within their communities, enlisting family members, friends and associates, to evaluate New Yorkers’ trust in the police abilities’ to control crime. This study utilizes that data to examine the correlation between citizens’ belief in police effectiveness and their estimated time frame to procure a gun.
