After an early career as an untenured professor for three research universities, I became tenured, a full professor, and a two-term chair of a large, graduate department with 5 regional campuses, and therefore quite a lot of adjuncts. After retirement, I joined another large graduate department as a visiting professor for 3 years, and now an adjunct. It is interesting (and frustrating) to move from senior prof to adjunct, even on a campus where adjuncts are unionized. The quote in the title came from the department secretary when I mentioned how easy it was to fix a problem with classrooms.
