“Dead Girl Town” Revisited: Further Explorations of Televised Femicide and Pessimism

Thu, Nov 16, 7:15 to 8:15pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

The use of a female victim, or Dead Girl, as a medium to explore violence and ontological themes is standard in televised drama. Drawing on research in media studies and informed by philosophical pessimism, this research explores the use of such tropes in recent popular television crime drama series, in particular the reliance on the use of the Dead Girl as a locus for trauma, murder, and crime on television. This poster presents expanded research with additional television crime dramas.
