The Socio-Feminist Reality Behind the Venezuelan Social Movement: Women’s Participation in The Current Social Movement

Abstract

Since 1980, social movement and its gender implications have caused the appearance of a double standard that depending on the social events and/or situations tend to be more or less inclusive leading to the modification of the social perception based on the “innovative tactics” used (Wang & Soule, 2016). Social movement tendency and/or behavior tends to be the result of a combination of individual commitments and a particular ideology that produced a motivational effect that reshaped the social reality (DeLamater & Myers, 2011). Evidences of an active participation of women in Venezuelan social movement should be analyzed following combined approach such as a feminism-gender symmetric approach. It will help to explain the current social participation of women in modern social movement. The purpose of this research is to determine and explain the reasons of why women tend to actively participate in modern social movement. Also, a comparative analysis of past and present social movement tendencies will be conducted to evaluate factors that may contribute to the development of this behavior in women and identify possible behavior patterns to predict future women’s participation tendencies- applicable worldwide.
