Deviant Statistics: A Qualitative Examination of Quantitative Methodology used in Justice Quarterly and Criminology, 2009-2014

Thu, Nov 16, 6:00 to 7:00pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

A content analysis of quantitative articles published in Justice Quarterly and Criminology between 2008 and 2014 will be performed. Types of quantitative analyses will be documented along with violations of methodological assumptions of the technique, type of sampling (i.e., random vs. nonrandom) and whether the article fully described the uncertainty and variation of the findings. The content analysis will discussed within the context of the replication crisis occurring in political science, social psychology and medicine.
