Coming Out and Perceived Vulnerability for Violence

Wed, Nov 15, 5:00 to 6:20pm, Marriott, Room 307, 3rd Floor

Abstract

This paper reviews the issue of Intimate Partner Violence in relation to the coming out process. Coming out is a unique experience for individuals who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and/or Queer (LGBTQ) and the exploration of the coming out process may help enhance efforts for advocates that address the issue of Intimate Partner Violence. The research for this paper was conducted by someone who is openly lesbian and who is a certified sexual assault/domestic violence victims' advocate.
