Ideological Approaches to Corrections in Norway: A Consideration of Staff Attitudes at Halden Prison

Thu, Nov 16, 6:00 to 7:00pm, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon E, 5th Floor

Abstract

Many Norwegian correctional officers have unique ethical, philosophical and practical approaches to interacting with and managing prison inmates. These perceptions are reflected in their individual outlooks on incarceration and sanctioning, as well as how they intend to encourage reform among those inmates they directly supervise. This poster presents the findings from single-site ethnographic research project conducted at Halden Prison in Halden, Norway.
