Abstract

The introduction will present a framework of the major epochs in the role of the federal government in criminal justice as it has morphed over the past 50 years, highlighting the generational changes that came from public pressure, Congressional debate, and emerging practices from the component agencies involved in criminal justice. The presentation will also address the extent of the impact of the federal role in changing practices in criminal justice throughout the nation.
