Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
The Criminal Justice field has experienced a turbulent and controversial year with instances of conflict, violence and protests. The impact of “mainstream media” and social media has failed to objectively disseminate information to the public. This has left students with skewed impressions of how the system operates and created negative interpretations without constructive change. This has led to issues in the classroom with professors placed in difficult and conflicted situations. This roundtable will examine issues, critiquing and re-examining damaging perceptions as well as possible remedies. Finally, the discussion will focus on how course objectives can be achieved in a safe atmosphere where discussion and intellectual discourse can be created without fear of repercussions.
