Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
The WestEd Justice & Prevention Research Center (jprc.wested.org) was inaugurated in 2015 to highlight the agency's work around areas such as school safety, violence prevention, adult criminal and juvenile justice, and public health and broader prevention initiatives. In this panel, we summarize our recent studies relevant to crime prevention, including papers on prevention strategies targeting urban youth firearms violence, juvenile sex offender registries, and alternatives to juvenile incarceration. The first paper summarizes evaluation and implementation literature related to comprehensive public health approaches to prevent urban gun violence. The second paper is a research review of juvenile sex offender registries that synthesizes the current state of evidence and issues through literature and expert interviews. The final paper presents early findings from a series of case studies of the juvenile detention alternatives initiative (JDAI) across four states.
