Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

The European Union has expressed its great concern in investigating the major issues affecting EU citizens, focusing on solving specific problems in key areas of daily life. This would be, for instance, the case of citizen security in general and, particularly, the fight against the different radical and violent ideologies capable of putting in risk the European culture of freedom and justice.

For this reason, the general aim of this thematic panel is to present from a holistic approach the phenomenon of violent radicalization and extremism, focusing especially on the processes of radicalization of individuals, prevention tools and policies of anti-radicalization applied both in physical space as in cyberspace. To achieve this aim, researchers from the European project PERICLES (Policy recommendation and improved communication tools for law enforcement and security agencies preventing violent radicalisation) will explain some of the progress of the project.
