Resistance to Injustice: Convict Criminology's role in an Erratic Present and Uncertain Future

Thu, Nov 16, 9:30 to 10:50am, Marriott, Grand Ballroom Salon J, 5th Floor

Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel

Abstract

Convict Criminology focuses on the illumination of dysfunction inside corrections and the criminal justice institution, and is engaging in progressive discussions about overcoming bias against the formerly incarcerated. In the current volatile political and social climate, how does Convict Criminology respond to the challenges posed by the current national and global social milieu? We will examine how such research can be transformed into practice which functions to resist structures of social inequality presently, and what course of action to take in the future.
