Abstract

Research on the consequences of paternal incarceration for children has grown rapidly over the last decades, but this line of empirical research stalls on a number of frontiers, such as improving existing methodologies and cultivating new data sources. This thematic panel offers directions for this line of research by presenting new data sources, new methods, and new research questions, which all could push the research frontiers in a number of important ways. Papers on this thematic panel use both US data and registry data from Denmark, thus inviting discussions of generalizability and the importance of context (and data quality and access). In doing so, the panel also directs attention to the growing importance of collaborating internationally to target data challenges and research questions in criminology.
