Examining Public Perception, Body-worn Cameras, and Data Processing in Law Enforcement Agencies through Large National Data Collections

Abstract

This session will focus on a number of salient topics in law enforcement, using data from large scale national surveys and a census conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics. The first presentation will evaluate public perception of the police using data from the 2015 Police-Public Contact Survey, a nationally representative survey of persons aged 16 or older. The second presentation will examine the use and nonuse of body worn cameras using data from the 2016 Body Worn Camera Supplement to the Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics (LEMAS) survey. The third and fourth presentations will examine data processing by law enforcement agencies using data from the 2013 LEMAS and the 2016 Survey of State Criminal Investigative Agencies.
