Abstract

Criminal justice researcher-practitioner partnerships are not new. However, the literature documenting the history and existence of these partnerships was virtually non-existent before 2010. As pressure on government institutions to develop more efficient criminal justice operations has mounted, government agencies have become more receptive to research collaborations. Universities have long been poised to act as the research partner, particularly universities that are geographically embedded in urban communities. This panel describes four criminal justice research-practitioner partnerships that are ongoing in Philadelphia with a focus on data-driven strategies and rigorous evaluation of impact. Each presentation will include speakers from the research team and practitioner partners to describe the use of research throughout the initiative, policy, or program. The session will also highlight the type of collaboration and data sharing needed to maintain a successful partnership.
