Abstract

The roundtable discusses the conceptualization and implementation of the Youth in Custody Practice Model (YICPM), a research-based best practice model to engage in juvenile justice residential facility reform. Presenters include the lead editor and co-author of the YICPM, juvenile justice system administrators and researchers, as well as facility provider agencies. The purpose is to discuss the development of the model, the piloting of the YICPM in 3 facilities operated under the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, with discussion of statewide implementation. Quick wins, gaps in services, roadblocks to facility reform, and evaluation of the YICPM are discussed. The YICPM addresses key components of residential facility reform, including living environment, influence of gangs, behavioral supports, transition, and re-entry practice areas.
