Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
The iCOR study, designed by NORC at the University of Chicago and the University of Iowa, is aimed at examining conflict in interpersonal relationships and the overlap between victim and offender statuses. The sample for this study is drawn from the AmeriSpeak panel, a probability-based panel with coverage of over 99% of U.S. households. One research objective of the study is to determine the nature, incidence, and covariates of different forms of interpersonal conflicts and conflict management styles. This thematic panel offers initial findings from research directed at this objective. The first paper will present findings from a latent class analysis of types of relational conflicts across relationship context. The second presentation will examine patterns and predictors of psychological and physical aggression across different forms of interpersonal relationships. The third paper will explore the role of different conflict management styles in intimate partner violence and the victim-offender overlap. Discussion will focus on why understanding conflict management styles will assist in the understanding and prevention of serious aggressive conflicts among young adults.
