Abstract

Controversies about migration in the United States and in Europe have centered, among others, on the perceived high level of crime within immigrant communities posing increased dangers to the host societies. This round table focuses on the criminality of recent, especially Mediterranean, migrant population in Germany in a comparative perspective. Helmut Kury, University of Freiburg discusses new data on migrant crime and trauma levels. Joachim Obergfell-Fuchs, Department of Corrections of Baden Württemberg, presents new approaches to dealing with the incarcerated migrant population. Annette Kuhlmann, University of Wisconsin – Baraboo, explores forms of criminality emerging among the second generation of migrants in comparative perspective.
