Good mentorship often produces good outcomes. One narrative of Crimes of the American Nuclear State centers on mentorship between student and professor (Kauzlarich and Kramer), young scholar and established criminologists (Kauzlarich, Kramer, Friedrichs, Michalowski, and Renzetti), and the overall abuilding of social capital within a marginalized subfield of criminology (critical criminology). Using mentorship literature and Bourdieusien concepts to frame the story, this paper explores key moments of guidance, support, and friendship in the long process leading up to the publication of the book and the similar pattern of mentorship after the book's release.
