To date, no U.S. study has examined whether the relationship between male peer support and violence against women varies across urban, suburban, and rural areas. Further, the bulk of the extant research on violence against rural women focuses on the experiences of adult female survivors of abuse and did not involve gathering data from potential male perpetrators. Using data generated by the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, the main objective of this study is help fill these major research gaps. Following DeKeseredy, male peer support is defined here as attachments to male peers and the resources they provide that perpetuate and legitimate woman abuse.
