Recent world events seem to have motivated renewed activity among right-wing extremists, not only within a global context but in Canada as well. Inspired by Donald Trump’s U.S. presidential election victory that ran, in large part, on an anti-immigrant platform, Canada – amongst other Western Nations – experienced an uptick in hate-inspired violence that was perpetrated by the radical right, with the Quebec City massacre in January of 2017 as an exemplar of this violence. In this study, we explore the internal and external landscape of right-wing extremism in Canada, both before and after Trump was elected leader of the U.S. Here we highlight the shifting nature of Canada’s movement, as well as the social and political landscape in which radical ideologies and subsequent actions are cultivated.
