NIDA reports that a baby is born with neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) every 25 minutes. From 2013 to 2014, the number of infants admitted for NAS in Kentucky rose by 40 percent. As part of an evaluation effort for a three-year, $3,000,000 SAMHSA award that Kentucky received, named Supporting Mothers to Achieve Recovery through Treatment and Supports (SMARTS), a social network analysis survey was developed. The baseline survey, along with a follow-up survey, has been administered to approximately 800 stakeholders, local implementation members, community members, clinicians, clients, and others. A multivariate model will be used to assess the strongest correlates of progress as well as remaining collective areas of concern on all of the different measures of the SMARTS Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) survey.
