Barriers to Domestic Violence Service Provision: Recognizing the Influence of the Rural/Urban Divide

Wed, Nov 14, 8:00 to 9:20am, Marriott, A705, Atrium Level

Abstract

The presentation will be centered on examination of whether barriers to service provision significantly differ between domestic violence shelters in rural and urban environments. Data stems from directors of domestic violence shelters in 17 states, specifically the south (geographically based upon the U.S. Census). Aside from investigating barriers to service, this project examines more generally services desired by survivors, types of services currently offered, whether local agencies and organizations meet the needs of victims, and perceptions about victims of DV.
