Victimization among incarcerated men and women can be detrimental to inmates’ wellbeing, as well as the safety and security of the institution in which they are housed. The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) was developed to prevent sexual violence in correctional institutions. Multiple risk assessments have been developed as mandated by PREA to predict sexual victimization risk among prisoners. However, these assessment tools have not considered whether there are additional, different, or unique predictors of sexual victimization among incarcerated women. This presentation will provide preliminary results from a project that examined the predictors of sexual victimization among women in prison.
