Capacity for Change: Findings from 2017 Strategies for Policing Innovation Sites

Abstract

Since 2009, the Bureau of Justice Assistance Strategies for Policing Innovation (SPI) initiative has supported and rigorously evaluated cutting edge policing interventions designed to improve a variety of outcomes in the communities they serve. Each cohort of SPI sites completes a capacity assessment to gauge local site strengths and capacities as they develop, implement, and evaluate their SPI initiatives. This presentation will highlight assessment findings from the latest cohort of SPI sites and compare the results to previous cohorts of sites. Initial findings indicate newer SPI sites have increased capacity for developing and implementing SPI initiatives and utilize more rigorous research methods for the evaluation.
