The field of cyber security has grown rapidly over the past several decades with numerous program offerings across US colleges and universities that are focused largely upon technical training for confronting cyber crimes. Cyber criminology programs have emerged more recently with a focus upon identifying and characterizing cyber criminals. To date, cyber security and cyber criminology programs have not been integrated into a comprehensive and research based curriculum. The current study traces the development of cyber security and cyber criminology programs toward the end goal of proposing an integrated research based cyber criminology and security curriculum model capable of simultaneously advancing research, education, and policy and practice in cyber criminology and security.
