Data and research on violence against women, and in particular the extent and nature sexual violence on college campuses has been the subject of challenges from a diverse set of perspectives. Given the limitations of research in this area, including the numerous problems with data from Clery reports, issues related to both reporting and underreporting concerns, measurement issues in survey data, failure to identify contextual factors associated with victimization, and problems in the interpretation of the results, a backlash has resulted in questioning the validity of all data and studies. Additionally, many VAW scholars when presenting or publishing their work have experience reviewers and commentaries questioning “where are the men?”
