Natural-language information extraction (IE) has become an important technique for extracting new insights and knowledge from unstructured text. It distills information from unstructured text by identifying references to named entities as well as certain relationships between such entities. This presentation demonstrates an application of natural-language information extraction to clinical case files on individuals who participated in a rehabilitative program. The information extracted from the case files is analyzed with traditional data-mining techniques to supplement administrative records.
We illustrate IE methods, and summarize results on mining text corpora of clinical case reviews.
