Session Submission Type: Complete Thematic Panel
Although there has been a recent increase in research on school security, safety, and discipline on a variety of criminologically-important outcomes, longitudinal research in this arena remains relatively underdeveloped. A lack of knowledge concerning the causes and consequences of school security efforts on various outcomes over time remains an important limitation given the ubiquitous and central role schools play in the lives of youth and emerging adults. The goal of this panel is to explore issues related to school safety and control within the longitudinal context with specific attention afforded to methodological issues and advances. That is, what do we know about longitudinal outcomes associated with school security, safety, and control and what more needs to be done to better understand the causes and consequences of control within schools over time?
