Session Submission Type: Roundtable Session
Due to the broad reach of criminal justice research it is typical to conduct research involving vulnerable populations. These populations can include youth as well as individuals impacted by violence, experiencing mental illness, and currently or formally engaged in criminal behavior. The panelists on this roundtable will share their experiences conducting research with such populations including challenges, limitations, and successes. They will discuss basics such as how do you navigate the IRB process, how to recruit and retain participants, and how to engage stakeholders in creating a study that is ethically grounded. Participants will leave with practical tips that they can utilize in their own research. This roundtable is one of a series of roundtables being presented by the ASC Ethics Committee.
